An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test is an annual check of the general safety and road worthiness of a vehicle. According to the DVSA, almost 37% of vehicles fail their MOT tests every year. Reasons a vehicle may fail its MOT could be that you have a warning light active on your dashboard, your mirrors may not be held up securely or your windscreen wipers are faulty. It’s never ideal when your vehicle fails its MOT, but you do have options if your vehicle is not worth the repairs. BMS Salvage can offer you a competitive price for your vehicle, and guarantee the quote. Plus, we’ll come and collect it on a day and time that is convenient for you. Salvage FAQs

I’ve accepted a quote, what happens now?

A friendly member of our team will get in touch with you to discuss your quote and ensure all of the details you have provided on your vehicle are correct. They will also make sure that they have everything they need before they pass your details onto the collection team. The collecting agent will then get in contact with you to arrange the best date and time to collect your vehicle.

Do I need to declare my vehicle off the road (SORN)

It is a legal requirement that all vehicles on the road must be insured and taxed. However, if you have a vehicle which you never use, you could take it off the road and file for a Statutory Off-Road Notification (SORN) – If it has been taken off the road, we can still collect it free of charge.

My car is an import; can you still take it?

We can scrap vehicles which are not registered in the UK. However, we cannot buy them for salvage. If you wish to sell a foreign registered vehicle you must notify the governing body in the country the vehicle is registered to. You will be required to send off any relevant documentation that they require. If you contact the governing body in the country it is registered to, they should be able to tell you exactly what is required as this can vary. If a vehicle has been imported, and is now registered in the UK, then we can buy it as normal.

I have taken parts off my vehicle, what happens now?

If you have removed parts of your vehicle, the price you’re quoted could be affected as your car may only be suitable for scrap rather than salvage. To find out the salvage value of your vehicle simply use our free salvage calculator and we will search through our network to find a suitable buyer and a price for you.
